Casa Asia

Casa Asia is a public consortium founded as the result of an agreement between the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council. The institution, which was established in one of Spain’s most international cities, Barcelona, on 9 November 2001, reflects the objectives established in the 2000-2002 Asia-Pacific Framework Plan and the European Union's new Asia strategies. Casa Asia’s main objective is promoting and carrying out projects and activities that contribute towards stronger relations and exchanges between Spain and Asian and Pacific countries, particularly in the cultural, academic, economic and educational spheres. And, through these activities they seek to encourage greater awareness of Spain in the Asia-Pacific region. Currently, Casa Asia is functioning to disseminate cultural information about the Asia-Pacific region in Spain and to provide venues for exchanges with the people of these two regions through the variety of activities and events it organizes.

The Casa Asia headquarters is located in Barcelona, in the Palau Baró de Quadras, a Modernist building designed by the architect Puig i Cadafalch that is classified as an Artistic and Historical Monument of National Interest. The facility includes a business center open to the business community to serve as a meeting point between Spanish and Asian companies, a library containing all types of books and periodicals published and edited in Spain concerning the Asia-Pacific region and a multimedia and computerized documentation center with printed materials, CD, DVD and video archives dedicated to gathering and supplying the latest information.
