Drama Reading Project, readings of Hisashi Inoue's The Face of Jizo planned in Canada, combined with a translation project introducing our outstanding modern Japanese plays
Since 2000, the Japan Foundation has undertaken a "Drama Reading Project" aimed at introducing to foreign audiences outstanding modern Japanese plays that have been translated into foreign languages, and in 2003 a new project has begun to translate more Japanese plays.
The plays translated so far under this translation project include Hisashi Inoue's The Face of Jizo, Yoji Sakate's The Attic, Masahiro Iwasaki's A Country Far from Here, Chung Wishing's The Winter Sunflower and Keralino Sandrovich's Frozen Beach. Also, Suzuki Matsuo's The Machine Diaries is presently being translated.
As part of our 2004-2005 Drama Reading Project, readings of Hisashi Inoue's The Face of Jizo (translated by Roger Pulvers) are planned in Canada at the Japan Foundation, Toronto (Jan. 14, 15, 18) and at Toronto's Sheridan College (Jan. 17).
