Noh theater invited for Edinburgh Festival opening
An official invitation has been received for a Noh theater performance by some of Japan’s representative Noh artists to grace the opening of the Edinburgh Festival. The artists include Tetsunojo Kanze, Masakuni Asami, Kan Hosho, Manzo Nomura and Rokurobyoe Fujita. To be performed are the Noh play Sumidagawa and the Kyogen (comedy) play Kagyu. To accompany this Noh presentation, there will also be a performance of Benjamin Britten’s Curlew River, which is said to have been inspired by the Noh play Sumidagawa. Plans also call for the Noh performances to be given in Vienna.
