Australia-Japan Dance Exchange (AJdX) 2006 residence performances held from August
 As one of the events associated with 2006 Australia-Japan Year of Exchange celebrating the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia, the Australia Japan Dance Exchange (AJdX) 2006 will be held in both countries as an international exchange project.
As the opening event of AJdX 2006, Australian contemporary dance company CHUNKY MOVE and the physical theatre THE HAPPY SIDESHOW performed in Japan at the Yokohama Dance Collection R in February of 2006. There was also a performance of a collaborative work between three women of the Japanese dance group BATIK led by Ikuyo Kuroda and three men of the Brisbane-based company DANCE NORTH/SPLINTER GROUP created over a period of about two months in Japan and Australia.
August will see the start of residencies in various locations for dancers from both countries that will involve creating collaborative works and giving performances. The locations for planned residencies and events included Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka and Matsuyama in Japan and Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Townsville in Australia.

“LUCY/KOTA Project”
Representative choreographers from the two countries, Lucy Guerin and Kota Yamazaki, went to each other’s countries to hold auditions and choreograph a work for the assembled dancers. Performances of the resulting works will be given as follows.

“SYDNEY KANSAI Project”
Six groups of active young artists from the two countries will give dance performances beginning at beginning at Art Theater dB and “remo” of the Osaka Festival Gate and then go on to stays in Matsuyama and Sydney, ending with a club event at the Sydney Opera House.

“KINOKO Project”
A collaborative project with an Australian interior designer. All the dancers of the Strange Kinoko dance company will have a month of residencies in Sydney’s Old Meat market and in Kanazawa, Japan, where they will create a collaborative work.

“CIRCUS Project”
The world famous Brisbane circus company C!RCA that created a new wave in the Australian circus world with its unique fusion of dance and circus is invited to give its first performance in Japan. Workshops will also be held.

“BATIK×DANCE NORTH/SPLINTER GROUP Project”
The collaborative work between the Japanese dance group BATIK and Brisbane-based DANCE NORTH/SPLINTER GROUP performed as an opening event of AJdX 2006 at the Yokohama Dance Collection R in February of 2006 will be performed in Australia. In the Australian performances, the additional presence of Jiro Matsumoto (music) and Sayoko Yamaguchi (costumes) will add new aspects to the production.
