The Japan Foundation Overseas Programs Around the World (from April 2006)
 The Japan Foundation will sponsor the following performance programs beginning from April 2006.
+Quartet Excelsior performs in Uzbekistan
The 11th International Festival of Contemporary Music “Ilkhom-XX will feature performances by Quartet Excelsior of works by Japanese contemporary composers, such as Toru Takemitsu’s Landscape 1, and also Korean composer Yun Isang’s Streichquartett Nr. 5. This music festival has been held in Tashkent every year since 1996, making this the 11th holding. Besides Japan, there will be participants from Germany, Italy, France and Russia, and the performances will take place at the National Music Institute from April 20 to May 1. In addition to its performance on the 25th of April, Quartet Excelsior will also give a master’s class for the Institute’s students on Japanese contemporary music for the first time.
+Jazz in Japan
“Jazz in Japan” is a performance series organized by the Japan Foundation in Paris (Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris) to introduce Japanese jazz musicians and this year will be its sixth holding. With a theme contemporary forms of improvisation in light of today’s international jazz scene, a 5-day program will present five groups. Two of these will involve collaboration with French musicians. The artistic director is Teruto Soejima.

+Condors performance in Manila
The popular dance company Condors led by Ryohei Kondo will give a contemporary dance performance and a workshop in Manila. This program is a function of the Japan Philippine Friendship Year 2006 and is being held at the Culture Center of the Philippines as part of the Philippine International Performing Arts Festival held in conjunction with the 31st UNESCO International Theatre Institute World Congress, Manila organized by the International Theater Institute.
