8th China Shanghai International Arts Festival opens month-long schedule on October 18
  In its eighth holding this year, the China Shanghai International Arts Festival will run for a month from October 18 to November 18. With a theme this time of “Classics and Nation,” the festival will consist of some 73 stages of roughly 45 programs at venues including the large facilities of the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the Shanghai Grand Stage and the Shanghai Gymnasium.
The highlights of this year’s festival will be gala performances by Langlang (piano solo), Huang Mengla (violin), Tang Muhai (orchestra director), Tan Yuanyuan (ballet), Jessye Norman (opera) and the Martins (gospel). The impressive lineup of overseas performers includes the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Chsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Sydney Dance Company, the New York City Ballet and Teatro alla Scala from Italy.
During the festival month there will also be regional programs such as a Mexican Culture Week, Italian series programs and an Inner Mongolia Culture Week. Other features will include the 8th Asian Music Festival, the 5th Baoshan International Folk Art Festival and other related events.
