Toyota Choreography Awards – Gala Performances begin July 7
The Toyota Choreography Awards were launched in 2001 as a competition to seek out and cultivate the next generation of choreographers (sponsored by Toyota Motor Company in collaboration with the Setagaya Public Theatre). From this year, the Awards will be held on a biennial basis (next holding in 2008).
As an affiliate project this year, the winners of the “Next Age Choreographer Award” from the past five holdings will participate in a “Toyota Choreography Awards – Gala Performance” tour.
These Gala Performances will start from Kanazawa and move on to Fukuoka and Tokyo. In Kanazawa and Fukuoka, the 1st (2002) award winners Jareo Osamu + Terada Misako and the 2nd (2003) award winner, Ikuyo Kuroda, will conduct workshops with local dancers and create a performance work through the workshops to be presented. In Tokyo there will also be a performance by the 2006 award winner Tsuyoshi Shirai.
