Booth at New York’s APAP Arts Market and performances, lectures on Hogaku (traditional Japanese music) (from Jan. 10, 2009)
      The Japan Foundation will mount a booth at the APAP Arts Market in New York and also offer in collaboration with the Asia Society a program introducing new directions in traditional Japanese Hogaku music. Now in the fourth year of the Hogaku program that was started in 2006, the features will be a lecture by the editor of Hogaku Journal, Mr. Takafumi Tanaka and performances by Hayashi Ensemble Fuji-zakura (shime-daiko, ootsuzumi, kotsuzumi drums and flute) and the koto and saxophone duo Passion of Asia – Testsuo Kawashima & Etsuko Takezawa. . After APAP, the performances will tour to Houston.

    The Japan Foundation will also be supporting the contemporary dance showcase presented by the Japan Society (performers: Ko & Edge Co., Yoko Higashino + Toshio Kajiwara) under the Foundation’s overseas performance grants program.
