KENTARO!! / Tokyo ELECTROCK STAIRS tour three cities in Germany (Dec. 12 – 17, 2011)
Japanese contemporary dancer KENTARO!! is making his first exclusive performance tour, with engagements at dance centers in the three German cities of Munster, Dusseldorf and Potsdam.
KENTARO!! is dancer and choreographer born in 1980. Working creatively from a base in hip hop technique, he has developed a unique dance style. In 2008, his work Don’t Cry, Wait in Tokyo won him the Grand Prix “Young Choreographer Prize” sponsored by the French Embassy for the Yokohama Dance Collection R Solo + Duo competition and the “Nextage Special Prize” and “Audience Prize” of the Toyota Choreography Awards. In December of 2008 he launched his dance company TOKYO ELECTROCK STAIRS.
In 2010 KENTARO!! participated with Kakuya Ohashi & Dancers in the “Dance from Japan European Tour Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Chopin’s Birth” as an international cultural exchange support project of Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs. His performances prompted the German magazine Tanz to run a feature article hailing KENTARO!! as the rising star of the Japanese contemporary dance scene. This favorable reception led to the current tour (2011 Agency for Cultural Affairs International Cultural Exchange Support Project).
The two works being performed by KENTARO!! and his TOKYO ELECTROCK STAIRS company on this tour are the company piece Todokete Kaibutsukun that premiered in June 2011 at Theatre Tram and the solo piece SADAME no MIKATA wa. In Dusseldorf, a performance and workshop for students is also scheduled.
