Project Development Initiative and Asian Arts Theatre Residency have been presented annually since 2010 as an effort to build artistic environments for the Asian Arts Theatre, scheduled to open in 2014 in Gwangju. The founder of Belgium’s Kunsten Festival des Arts, Frie Leysen, has taken the position of artistic director for the Asian Arts Theatre with the mission of creating a platform for Asian artists.

It seeks to contribute to the transformative environment by gaining exposure to new ideas, and various artistic and cultural expressions. Through ruminating cultural values and discovering collaborative works of progressive artists, its aim is to stimulate the significance and development of contemporary performing arts with a special emphasis on Asian culture to achieve artistic excellence.
