April Visitor: Ratna Sarumpaet, Representative of the Jakarta Arts Council
  The Jakarta Arts Council engages in a variety of programs in the arts from its base at the Taman Ismail Marzuki(TIM) run by the government of Jakarta state in Indonesia. Ratna Sarumpaet is a playwright and director whose works deal with social issues. She has earned a reputation as a theater artist with a strong concern for human rights and her highly acclaimed works have been performed in countries around the world. On this visit to Japan she is looking into the Japanese arts and culture scene with the intention of using the information she gains here for future cultural exchanges between Japan and Indonesia.
On April 13 she gave lectures at Sophia University in Tokyo organized of the university's Asian Culture Research Center, in which she spoke about the status of arts and culture policy in Indonesia and the recent Sumatra earthquakes.
