“Moving in November” is a dance festival that has been held in Helsinki and the surrounding areas since the mid-1980s and has continued to play an important role in stimulating the growth and development of contemporary dance. In its early years, the main focus of the festival was on securing funding for contemporary dance, but today the focus has shifted more to inviting performances by outstanding artists and the production of new works.
With the aim of becoming a festival that disseminates dance information from Helsinki to the world, the decision has been made for the festival to be held every year beginning from 2005. Since 2000, the festival is being run by Dance Arena, a confederation of five contemporary dance-related organizations.
This year’s “Moving in November” festival was held from Oct. 29 to Nov. 6 with attention focusing on performances by the collaboration unit Les Ballets C. de la B, Bâche, the German choreographer Stephanie Thiersch’s work Under Green Ground, the NEUER TANZ dance ensemble’s work Revolver and more. There was also a premiere of the Finnish choreographer Liisa Pentti’s new work 1-0, matériel du coeur.
