Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) Opens October 7
Since its launch in 2001 as a marriage of the Seoul Theater Festival (founded 1977) and the Seoul Dance Festival (founded 1978), the Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) has been South Korea’s largest-scale performing arts festival. Now in its sixth holding, the 2006 festival will run from October 7 to 29 with the Arko Arts Theater, the National Theater of Korea, the Songan University Mary Hall, the Nam Mountain Drama Center, and the Dongduk Women’s University Performing Arts Center as its main venues. The theme of this year’s festival is the fundamental elements of the performing arts, “body, heart, breath and perspiration,” and it will bring together works of theater, dance, music and performance from 14 countries. Being held at the same time as the rapidly expanding Performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS), Seoul in October is certain to be alive with people from around the performing arts world.
