“J-Dance Special Solos” event celebrates 10th anniversary of Maison de la Culture du Japon a Paris
From late November into early December, the Japan Foundation will present contemporary Japanese solo dance works by men and women of three generations of artists in a systematic program of performances in Rome and Paris.
Japan Foundation’s Maison de la Culture du Japon a Paris facility was opened in 1997 and has planned and organized an ongoing program of contemporary dance performances as part of its arts and cultural activities. Central to these efforts is the “J-Dance” series, begun in 2003, that presents the brightest young talents on the dance scene. The “J-Dance Special Solos” to be presented this time commemorates the 100th anniversary of the opening of Maison de la Culture du Japon a Paris and includes world-renowned butoh as well as selected works from the other contemporary dance scenes that have evolved energetically from a number of veins. Included in the program will be lectures by the dance critic Kazuko Kuniyoshi.
In addition to performances in Paris, there will be performance in Rome organized through the cooperation of the organizers of the Romaeuropa Festival due to a strong interest in the program.
