Yokohama Dance Collection R held (Feb. 5-12, 2009)
The contemporary dance festival Yokohama Dance Collection R 2009 is being held from Feb. 5-12 at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse (Akarenga Soko) No. 1. This festival, launched in 1996, underwent a renewal in 2005 and is in its 14th holding this year, with the R standing for concepts including Real, Rise, Respect, Red, Renew, Revolution, etc.

The program begins with the “Yokohama Solo×Duo ‹Competition›+” held from Feb. 5 to 8 in the 3rd floor hall, a competition aimed at discovering, supporting and nurturing up and coming young choreographers, both domestic and international. There will be performances by the 15 finalists chosen on the basis of video judging. Also, on the 11th and 12th there will be performances of works past winners of the Competition’s various awards.

During the festival, participating choreographers will promote their own produced works in the Yokohama Dance Collection R 2009 Contemporary Dance Showcase (entrance free) in the 2nd floor space. Visits by overseas dance directors are also planned.
