The Asahi Performing Arts Awards operations suspended
The Asahi Shimbun Co. has announced its decision to suspend operations of its Asahi Performing Arts Awards as of the 8th holding for the 2008 awards. As readers of this website know from our regular coverage of these awards, they have been one of Japan’s representative awards in the performing arts field. Launched in 2001, the Asahi awards have recognized excellence in performances in Japan through its Grand Prix as a “Best Stage” award and others for highly contemporary dance and for artists and individuals pointing the way for future developments in the arts. Concerning the reason for the suspension of the awards program, the Asahi Shimbun says it is the result of a broad-sweeping review of its awards programs.
