The Asia Playwrights Conference 09 held (Dec. 16 – 19, 2009)
 This is a conference for playwrights of the Asia-Oceania region organized in collaboration with the Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne of Australia intended to be held every other year alternately in Melbourne and Tokyo. By a decision of the Conference’s organizing committee (Chairman: Yoji Sakate), this year’ Asia Playwrights Conference 09 is being hosted by Za-Koenji Public Theatre in Tokyo. The conference theme is “Looking for a New World Framework: Possibilities of Translocalism Through Drama.” The keynote address will be given by Singapore’s Huzir Sulaiman and there will be drama readings of works by five Asia-Oceania playwrights, with speeches an sessions by the playwrights themselves. The works to be presented in the drama readings include, Raymondo Cortese’s (Australia) Holiday, Layeta Prizon Bucoy’s (Philippines) Doctor Resurrection (Doc Resureccion: Gagamutin ang Bayan), Chong Wishing’s (Japan) Heart of Almond Jelly (Annindofu no Kokoro), Nguyen Thu Phuong’s (Vietnam) The House of Three Sisters and Joned Suryatmoko’s (Indonesia) Threesome. Directing the readings will be Minoru Seki (Sanjokai) and Hiroyuki Yamada (uniquepoint).
