Yokohama Dance Collection R 2010 opens (Feb. 4 – 11, 2010)
 The 2010 festival marks Yokohama Dance Collection R’s 15th year and one of the main events on the program is the final competition of the “Yokohama Solo × Duo ‹Compétition› +” involving presentations of the works 15 finalist artists and groups from three countries selected from videos submitted by 133 individuals and groups from eight countries. The finalists are as listed below.

From Japan: Shizu Araki, Teita Iwabuchi, Mitsutake Kasai, Kitamari, Eri Matsuzaki, Yumiko Minami, Ruri Mitoh/Kaho Kogure/Miho Shinogaya (japonica-ponica), Yumi Osanai, Noriko Seki, Yukari Uto, Maiko Yamazaki/Kumiko Watanabe (Pagi)
From S. Korea: Lee Dong Won, Baek Howool, Geon Hyauk Jin
From the Philippines: Zyda Marie Baaya

Planned performances by former competition winners include one by Takiko Iwabuchi or Dance Theatre Ludens, winner of the 2001 Yokohama Arts Foundation Award and The French Embassy Prize.

Yokohama Dance Collection R is a contemporary dance festival launched in 1996. The “R” in the festival name stands for a number of words, including Red, Revolution, Resonance, Respect, Residence, Rise, etc. The festival also serves as an international market for contemporary dance attracting directors from overseas festivals and theaters. There is also a dance competition and performances by former competition winners, booth exhibits and showcases as well other programs such as presentations concerning trends in the world dance scene. Outside of the festival’s run, the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1 presents a year-round schedule of contemporary dance events.
