Utrecht’s Springdance 2011 opens April 14, 2011
 Every year in April Springdance brings the international world of contemporary dance and performance to Utrecht, the Netherlands in a two-week festival with shows, performances, installations, and debates, presented at different locations throughout the city. The festival presents work of up-and-coming young independent dance artists as well as more established artists, from the Netherlands and abroad. The 2011 festival opens with Sideways Rain by Guilherme Botelho / Alias, and contact Gonzo will give both indoor and outdoor performances in the group’s first appearance in the Netherlands. The main programs are:

In addition, “Europe in Motion,” a project in partnership with Nottdance (UK), iDans (Turkey) and ImageTanz (Austria) for nurturing talented young choreographers and touring works, features nine artists from the four countries under the theme “Mosaic Identities,” and the London-based Japanese artist Chisato Minamimura takes part in it with New Beats. “STRAAT,” a program launched in 2009 for choreographic development of dancers of Utrecht, offers workshops, presentations and master classes. This year, performances are shown at Neude Square in the city center and Julia Mitomi, originally from Japan, leads master classes with Roy Jonathans.
