Programs for Festival/Tokyo 13 announced
The plans have been announced for the 2013 holding of the Tokyo performing arts festival “Festival/Tokyo 13” (F/T 13). Over a one-month period beginning November 9, the festival will be held at the main venue of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and surrounding areas in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo in cooperation with the local authorities and communities.
As the festival’s sixth holding, F/T 13 continues the festival’s re-inquiry into the fundamentals of drama and fiction, seeking out new forms of narrative for the world today. Invited foreign artists include Germany’s Rimini Protokoll, Back to Back Theatre (Australia) and Indonesia Theatre of Studio (Indonesia). Artists from Japan presenting new works include Shu Matsui’s company Sample, Kinoshita Kabuki, Shigeki Nakano + Kaku Nagashima and Port B led by Akira Takayama, as well as Masataka Matsuda and Yukichi Matsumoto. Also, chelfitsch will perform Genzaichi.
Participants selected from applicants for the F/T Emerging Artists Program, now in its fourth year, have also been announced. From among some 137 entry applications, four Japanese and five Asian artists/groups (one each from India, Taiwan, China, S. Korea and Singapore) have been selected.
This time a good number of large-scale open-participation type projects are also planned to heighten the festive mood of the F/T 13. For details, see the F/T website.
